Central Devon Parliamentary Constituency

Central Devon is a new constituency which will elect its first member of Parliament at the next General Election. Central Devon constituency will be formed from a number of electoral wards from the Districts and Boroughs of East Devon, Mid Devon, Teignbridge and West Devon.

  • Exe Valley ward from East Devon

  • Boniface, Bradninch, Cadbury, Lawrence, Newbrooke, Sandford and Creedy, Silverton, Taw, Taw Vale, Upper Yeo, Way and Yeo from the district of Mid Devon

  • From the Teignbridge district, Ashburton and Buckfastleigh, Bovey, Chudleigh, Haytor, Kenn Valley, Moorland, Teignbridge North, and Teign Valley

  • Chagford, Drewsteignton, Exbourne, Hatherleigh, Lew Valley, North Tawton, Okehampton East, Okehampton West and South Tawton from West Devon

Based on the results of previous elections, the new Central Devon seat is seen as likely to be highly marginal between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats, with the Liberal Democrats projected as being just 1,700 votes behind.

Notional 2005 Results:

  • Conservative: 19,843 (42.4%)

  • Liberal Democrat: 18,099 (38.7%)

  • Labour: 5,020 (10.7%)

  • Other: 3,858 (8.2%)
