Surprise visitor at the Moretonhampstead Lib Dems' coffee morning today was Derbyshire councillor Tony Rogers. Tony was Parliamentary candidate here when Moreton formed part of the old Totnes constituency, when he took the Liberal vote up from 9,000 to over 24,000. He was pleased to greet many old friends, as well as wishing good luck to Sally Morgan, the new challenger for the Central Devon seat.

"Liberal Democrats have some winning policies, which clearly distinguish us from the Tories and from Labour," he said. "Only Liberal Democrats want to take people on low incomes out of the taxation system. Only Liberal Democrats want a referendum on whether we stay in the European Union or not. And only Liberal Democrats want to reform the voting system, so that no government can take us to war, when it has received only 34% of the vote."
