Lib Dem Candidate Champions Carers Cause12.14.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 6th Jun 2008
South Devon Carers Consortium recently met at the Dartmoor Lodge Hotel near Ashburton to update carers on support services available to them and their cared-for persons. Cllr Sally Morgan, Lib Dem PPC for Central Devon who is the Devon County Council Carers Champion, was also at the meeting to listen to carers concerns. "Carers do a fantastic job and are too often taken for granted. They are some of the unsung heroes in our society. Without them and the work they do Health and Social Care agencies would be bankrupt and many vulnerable people would suffer. Often people become carers gradually over a long period of time as the health of their loved one deteriorates. Many people do not even realise that they are carers until they reach crisis point, as happened when my mother was the carer for my father. There are many services out there that can help and support and often a call to the Devon County Council Service Centre and Care Direct can point people in the right direction." Carers who would like to come to the next Teignbridge Forum should ring Justin Haden on 01803 294275.
